The staff at Gifted Minds Academy all share a common commitment and understanding of the needs of all children. They will work to provide your child with any specific assistance you feel is required. The employees will strive to strengthen and enhance the efforts being made at home.


Shirley P. Cherry, M.S. Ed

The Director has a proven track record of leadership and  development. She has served as:  

- Reading Specialist

- Reading Recovery Teacher

- Teacher Mentor

 - Director of the Even Start Program

- Coordinator



The Staff possesses more than three decades of experience in Education teaching preschool through sixth grade while specializing in reading/language arts methodologies, research and theories.  It has made effective use of instructional strategies and technology for ethnically and linguistically diverse in urban settings. 

The highest level of accomplishment of the Staff is that of a Doctoral Degree in Education, and the second highest is that of a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education/Reading.


Once hired, each care giver must complete 16 hours of training in child development each year and are striving towards Associates Degrees in Early Childhood Education. 


In addition to the Program Director, Lead Teacher, Teachers and Teacher Assistants, the staff also includes a Nutritionist, Trained Montessorri Teacher, Trainned Reading Recovery Teacher, and a Reading Specialist.
